BASS INA YU FACE RECORDS

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA

As the name indicates, Bass Inna Yu Face Records incorporates a very bass mentality in its production. Started by Othniel ‘Taddy P’ Campbell and based (ahem) in Montego Bay, the label’s fusion of funk, soul and reggae have been highlighted as “defining a new sound for reggae” (Tomas Palermo/ForwardEver).

TADDY P

From a homemade guitar constructed by his father – the body fashioned from wood and fishing line for strings – Jamaica’s bass guitar virtuoso and producer Taddy P never let the ‘big one’ get away.

Endless practice sessions as a youth in Montego Bay, Jamaica on the homemade guitar earned Taddy a proper one, and eventually, classical studies at the Royal School of Music in London, England, which led to a regular gig as the personal bass player for 2-time Grammy nominee, Maxi Priest, productions with Jamaica’s top vocalists and launching the Bass Ina You Face record label.

Despite the unconventional route, Taddy P’s formula has always been the same: endless hours of practice and sheer hard work at fine tuning Taddy’s hard-driving yet well-rounded, infectious bass style.

It is this infectious style that Taddy P brings to his own productions with Tanya Stephens (“Heart of Stone”), Bunny Rugs of Third World (“Monday Night Blues”) and Macky Conscious (“Leave the Crumbs Alone”).

Indeed, Taddy P’s diverse life experiences music manifest themselves in the music, which combine roots reggae riddims and a compelling message with bluesy melodies, rock overdubs and a consistent soulful vibe.
